Friday is an early release day for Montgomery County Public Schools, and after dismissal, students can attend a youth block party at Veterans Plaza in downtown Silver Spring.
County Council President Kate Stewart hosts the third annual “Buckets and Beats” event with the Silver Spring Regional Services Office.
The free block party will be 2-6 p.m. and is targeted toward middle and high school students. There will be basketball and pickleball tournaments, arts activities, a DJ, free food, and prizes, per a release.
MCM attended last year’s block party.
“This is one of my favorite events of the year because it brings out our community, brings us together, and showcases the great resources we have here in the county,” Stewart said during a recent media briefing.
Students ages 12 and older can sign up here to take part in the basketball tournament. The pickleball tournament does not require registration.
