The third annual “Buckets and Beats: The Silver Spring Youth Block Party” connected Silver Spring area middle and high schoolers to resources, sports, music and food on Friday afternoon at Veteran’s Plaza.
An early release day from Montgomery County Public Schools allowed young people to compete in basketball tournaments, play pickleball and learn about the resources available to them. Each student was given a card to be stamped after visiting a resource table. Lots of stamps meant free food and prizes.
Students had a chance to speak with representatives from Montgomery County’s recreation, health and fire departments and nonprofits dealing with mental health and drug abuse issues. They also learned about activities they could join like art classes, film making and MCM video and editing classes.
