Joel Alberto Cubias, 20, of Rockville, was charged with attempted murder Wednesday following a shooting on Highwood Road.
Rockville City Police officers responded to the 1100 block of Highwood Road at 10 p.m. after receiving reports that shots had been fired. When the officers arrived, they determined that Cubias had attempted to stop a person who may have been trying to steal property from outside his home.

Cubias was arrested and charged with attempted murder, first-and-second degree assault, reckless endangerment and firearm related offenses. He also was charged with theft after police said he had a stolen motorcycle.
This is an ongoing investigation, and police said additional charges may be filed as the incident is reviewed.
