About Olivia Fanders
Olivia Fanders is an intern in the News & Public Information Department. She is a student at Georgetown University’s Walsh School of Foreign Service, where she is pursuing a Bachelor of Science in International Politics and a minor in Journalism.
She has worked for the International Rescue Committee in New York for the past three years, dealing directly with refugee and immigrant youth to provide individualized educational support. At the same time, she also released articles with The Borgen Project, reporting on issues of global poverty, international development, and U.S. foreign aid policy. In both roles, she combined policy knowledge with narrative skill to elevate the experiences of marginalized communities. She has also worked for non-profits such as MindLeaps and the Institute for Youth in Policy in various capacities as well.
At Georgetown, Olivia continues to lead and engage across disciplines. She serves as Deputy Chair of Community Engagement on the SFS Academic Council, Director of Registration for NAIMUN, and an editor at The Georgetown Voice, where she oversees trauma-informed reporting on sexual violence. Her writing has appeared in The Jersey Journal, The Borgen Project, and student publications, covering topics ranging from refugee education to foreign protest movements.
Olivia plans to pursue a career as a foreign correspondent in broadcast news, where she hopes to bring clarity and humanity to global reporting.
