There is no argument that Quince Orchard and Sherwood are the cream of the crop in high school football in Montgomery County. Both teams will play for the Maryland state title this week in their respective divisions after impressive runs in the playoffs.
Quince Orchard (Gaithersburg) ran their unbeaten streak to 25 games with four playoff wins to get to the Class 4A title game and the Cougars look to repeat as Maryland state champions. Quince Orchard will go up against Dr. Henry A. Wise Jr. High School at 7 p.m. Dec. 5 at Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium in Annapolis in the championship. Quince Orchard has gone 13-0 this season and is seeking its fourth state title in the last five years.

Sherwood (Sandy Spring), only had one loss this year and that came at the hands of Quince Orchard in the regular season. Sherwood heads to the Class 3/4A title game on December 4 at 7 p.m. versus Baltimore’s Mergenthaler Vocational Tech. The championship game will also be held in Annapolis. Sherwood is 11-1 and cruised through the post-season to get to the finals.
