Metropolitan Washington Council of Governments (COG) awarded Montgomery County Councilmember Kate Stewart its highest honor for public service.
Stewart received the Elizabeth and David Scull Metropolitan Public Service Award Wednesday. She was recognized for her exceptional regional leadership.
Stewart, who just completed her term as president of the county council, served on the Council of Government’s board of directors and was board chair in 2023.
“[S]he has been a driving force on regional initiatives to advance racial equity leadership training programs, support ambitious clean energy goals, and convene leaders around sustainable long-term funding for WMATA, helping lay the groundwork for the recently released DMVMoves regional transit vision and funding plan,” according to COG.
The award is named for Elizabeth and David Scull, two former Montgomery County Councilmembers who were strong supporters of COG and regional cooperation.
Also honored were Antoine Thompson, Clean Cities Coalition Executive Director, and Robert Lazaro Jr., former Northern Virginia Regional Commission Executive Director.
