Love it, hate it or fear it—Artificial Intelligence has made life better for the Takoma Park police. The suburb taps AI to find and fine drivers who roll through stop signs. MCM visited the areas where the technology has been installed to find out how it works.
The police department uses AI to analyze the video from the solar powered stop signs. After screening many videos, the department determined what makes a stop unsafe. Then they use AI to find the recordings of automobiles that don’t make a sufficient stop.
If you drive through Takoma Park and come to a stop sign, you’ll want to make sure your speedometer goes down to four miles per hour before you move on—and, of course, the safest option is to come to a full and complete stop.
