It was a year to remember for the Walt Whitman girls basketball team.
The Vikings capped off an undefeated season with a Class 4A Maryland state championship.
Whitman beat Richard Montgomery 51-40 in an all-county title game at the University of Maryland, Baltimore County on Wednesday night. Whitman finished the season 26-0, a school record.
“I knew we had talent but I didn’t expect us to be this good,” Whitman coach Pete Kenah said. “I am so happy for the girls.”
This is the second state title for Whitman under Kenah, who just finished his 24th season at the school. “Winning a title, it just bonds you forever,” Kenah said. “They will always have that championship season together.”
