5 things to know today, April 8, in Montgomery County

It’s Wednesday, April 8, and here are five things to know in Montgomery County. Check the weather forecast here.

1.  Weather: Sunshine and below normal temperatures, according to the National Weather Service.

2. Paint the Plow: MCPS middle schools have until 5 p.m. Friday to register for the county transportation department’s “Paint the Plow” contest to decorate a snowplow for a chance at a cash prize for their school. The transportation department will drop off a plow and provide the paint supplies. The contest celebrates public service workers and the decorated plows are used during snowstorms. 3. Budget hearings: At 1:30 p.m. and 6:30 p.m., the County Council will hold public hearings on the proposed FY27 operating budget. Watch here

4. Council outlaws sale of bamboo: Bamboo will no longer be sold or planted in the county. Instead, the use of native plants and grasses will be encouraged strongly following Tuesday’s unanimous vote by the County Council.

5. The Pulse at Butler’s Orchard: On our latest episode of The Pulse, viewers get to explore the popular family farm as its 30th Annual Bunnyland celebration gets underway. It’s an Eastertime tradition that draws around 1,000 visitors a day during its peak weekend, according to Gina Giantonio, Director of Agritainment at Butler’s Orchard.
