Police arrested a 16-year-old boy in connection with the recent vandalism at Bradley Hills Elementary School in Bethesda where the name of the Sandy Hook mass shooter was graffitied on a fence.
He is also charged for setting fire to an outdoor shed at the school last week, according to Montgomery County police.
The suspect is a student at Walt Whitman High School. He is charged with two counts of second-degree arson, first-degree malicious burning, malicious destruction of property, threats of mass violence, and one count of altering physical evidence.
Detectives got a search warrant for the suspect’s electronics and found evidence, according to police.
Police will continue to patrol around the school, but authorities state “there is no ongoing threat to the school or the public related to this case.”
The case will go to the Department of Juvenile Services.
Security and police presence was heightened at the school Monday.
There will be a full assessment of the school’s camera systems, according to a letter to families from Principal Brooks Kemp on Sunday.
More cameras have already been ordered and more lighting will be installed to support cameras, according to school officials.
