A local Navy veteran has been honored with the role of leading the Memorial Day Ceremony and Parade in Rockville Town Center as its 2026 grand marshal.
Dr. Arthur Glover, Ph.D., is a seasoned veteran who served as a Lieutenant Commander in the Navy for more than 23 years. He is an active member of the community and is responsible for the organizational activities of the Montgomery County chapter of the Military Officers Association of America.
“What Memorial Day means to me is paying homage to those who have gone before us and gave their life for our country,” said Glover to MCM. “On Memorial Day, we need to honor those who heeded the call to fight for and preserve democracy.”
Glover had initially reached out to the Rockville Town Center to inquire about at guest speaking opportunity at the event, but was instead offered to serve as its grand marshal by the special events organizer. While unexpected, Glover said he is very excited about the honor. The goal of his speech is to “put a positive spin on things” and rather than focusing on the uncertainty of current events, Glover said he aims to focus on the people who have served the country.
Like his understanding of the meaning behind the U.S. holiday, Glover said he hopes to continue serving by honoring those before him.
The event is scheduled for Monday, May 25 in Rockville Town Center Park, located at 131 Gibbs Street.
The ceremony will begin at 9 a.m. with a musical tribute by the Rockville Concert Band and Chorus, then an official ceremony at 9:30 a.m. followed by the parade. The parade will begin at the intersection of North Washington Street and Martins Lane.
