Montgomery County’s legislative leaders, including Sen. Chris Van Hollen and U.S. Rep. April McClain Delaney (Md.-6th) gathered at the Gaithersburg Olde Towne Youth Center Wednesday morning to announce a $1 million federal investment at the Gaithersburg Olde Towne Youth Center for the Gaithersburg Pedestrian Safety Improvements project.
They were joined by County Councilmember Sydney Katz and the City of Gaithersburg’s Mayor Jud Ashman and Councilmember Lisa Henderson, among others.
The money will be used to expand and upgrade pedestrian and cyclist zones, and areas where students frequently walk.
Sen. Van Hollen, Sen. Angela Alsobrooks and Congresswoman McClain Delaney worked to secure the money for the project in fiscal year 2026 through a process that allows members of congress to request grants within their state or district for specific projects.
