Four Bethesda small businesses were broken into during the early morning hours on Monday, according to the Montgomery County Department of Police.
Detectives are now investigating a string of robberies that occurred July 20 in the 7800 and 7900 blocks of Old Georgetown Road in Bethesda. Nails by Tammy was one of the affected stores. In an interview with MCM, owner Loc Pham described what happened.
“Two guys with a metal baseball bat break the window, they go in, take the money and get out in 20 seconds — real fast. So they know what they’re looking for — money that’s all. We lost about $300,” said Pham. “The problem is the glass repair cost too much money — $2,400. That’s a lot of money.”
Pham was notified of the robbery at around 2:52 am when he got a call from his alarm company notifying him that someone was breaking the glass window of the store. After reviewing surveillance footage, he noticed two men leaving a white four-door sedan parked on the street.
He says police later found the car abandoned.

Lilit Cafe was another one of the affected businesses. Owner Praneet Aryal says two men used baseball bats to break the glass of his storefront, as well. They came in and stole the register, which had about $1,000 in cash stored inside.
“It was open, actually. The key was right on it. They could’ve just opened it and taken the cash if they wanted, but I think they were in a rush, so they just grabbed it and ran,” said Aryal.
Four similar crimes are under investigation by police. MCM will update the story when more information is available.
