A sinkhole shut down southbound River Road at Falls Road in Potomac on Thursday, creating major delays for drivers heading into D.C.
Montgomery County police said crews are on scene and working to secure the area. The closure blocks the main route many commuters use to reach the Beltway, and traffic is backing up through nearby neighborhoods.
Drivers should use alternate routes and expect delays until crews repair the road.
