61 faith-based and nonprofit organizations have been awarded $700,000 to support their security needs.
“Our action on this predates the incident of two weeks ago,” County Executive Marc Elrich said during a press conference Thursday. On Jan. 15, multiple people were taken hostage at a synagogue in Colleyville, Texas.
In May 2021, the county council approved the funding, per a release from the county, which can go toward security personnel and other security/training measures. Funding is administered by the Office of Emergency Management and Homeland Security.
