Videographer/Editor
Summary
The Videographer/Editor is responsible for producing high-quality video content that supports the organization’s news and public information initiatives. This role includes video recording, editing, and delivering engaging visual content that effectively communicates key messages to the public, stakeholders, and the community. The ideal candidate brings a strong track record and advanced technical expertise in video production, combined with storytelling skills, to ensure all content is accurate, professional, and aligned with organizational standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Operate Electronic News Gathering (E.N.G.) cameras and video editing equipment
- Perform the gathering of visual elements and, on occasion, conduct interviews and the integration of those elements into news packages and voice over pieces, suitable for airing on news programs
Other Functions
- The editing of news projects
- The operation of control room and studio equipment during productions
- Ability to comfortably perform various studio roles as needed, including directing, technical directing, operating control room and studio equipment, running graphics (XPression), and reading/loading production scripts and rundown software; strong experience coordinating production crews is essential
- Perform additional responsibilities as assigned, in alignment with the National Association of Broadcast Employees and Technicians–Communications Workers of America (NABET-CWA) agreement.
Required Qualifications
- 4+ years of production experience, with an emphasis on location/field and in-studio productions; demonstrated experience in post-production and video editing with Adobe Creative Cloud applications, including working with graphic templates (e.g., MOGRTs). Motion graphics experience is a plus but not required.
- Strong knowledge of cinematography and digital video production, with advanced technical skills in camerawork, lighting, ENG, and broadcast standards for both commercial/television and news production.
- Bachelor’s degree in film and television production, or related bachelor’s or associate degree also may apply. Adequate work experience may substitute for the education requirement.
- Proven ability to deliver strong customer service and work collaboratively with government agencies, community groups, production/technical teams, and individuals unfamiliar with the production process, while remaining effective under pressure.
- Commitment to community media, Public, Education and Government (PEG) access cable television, first amendment rights and public interest telecommunications.
- Clean driving record and valid Driver’s License. Ability to provide own transportation to attend meetings and events away from the office.
- Must be willing to travel frequently across Montgomery County, and work flexible hours, including weekends, holidays, and overnight shifts, as outlined by the NABET-CWA agreement.
- Must be able to perform essential job functions, which may include:
- Lifting and carrying equipment of 40 pounds
- Frequent reaching, stretching, twisting, and bending
- Prolonged periods of standing
- This position falls under a collective bargaining agreement with NABET-CWA. Successful candidates must either be current members or join the union upon hire.
The salary range for this full-time position is $62,000 -$66,000 annual, assuming 40 hours a week.

MCM is seeking a relatable, warm, and engaging host (ages 25–45) for its upcoming show series featuring multicultural neighborhoods in Montgomery County.
About the Show
The show will be a tv and digital series exploring the people, places, and cultures that make up the fabric of Montgomery County. Each 10–15 minute episode highlights one cultural community — visiting restaurants, community centers, shops, and gathering spaces — while weaving in personal stories and traditions. The show will air on MCM’s TV channels, 19 and 21, and be featured widely across digital platforms, with short-form clips created for social media.
The Host We’re Looking For
We’re looking for someone who:
- Is relatable, warm, and engaging, with a natural on-camera presence
- Falls within the 25–45 age range
- Connects easily with people from diverse backgrounds
- Brings curiosity, energy, and authenticity to every interaction
- Understands the importance of digital media and storytelling
- Is familiar with Montgomery County and/or a County Native
Responsibilities
- Guide audiences through Montgomery County’s diverse cultural communities
- Interview community members, business owners, and leaders in a conversational style
- Adapt tone and delivery for both broadcast and digital platforms
- Collaborate with producers and crew on episode flow and storytelling
- Other production duties assigned as necessary
Qualifications
- Prior on-camera or hosting experience
- Social media savvy; understands short-form video and audience engagement
- Bilingual or multilingual ability a plus, but not required
- Passion for community storytelling and cultural diversity

- Research stories and fact check information
- Write news scripts for packages, VOSOTs, VOs and Readers
- Produce field reports and reporter look lives
- Collaborate with production team and editors on editing and visual storytelling processes
- Cover local events, government briefings, and community stories with guidance
- Collaborate with social media team on news promotions

- A skilled journalist and storyteller with 1-2 years of experience working in a TV newsroom or campus TV station.
- Curious, motivated, and interested in storytelling.
- Strong writer, speaker, and communicator.
- Creative with multimedia storytelling.

- A graduate of a four-year university journalism or media school, or have the equivalent professional experience.

Location: This is a hybrid position and will require some hours at the office (Silver Spring, Md.) and in-person events.
Are you passionate about the Montgomery County community and want hands-on, impactful professional digital marketing experience? Want to help contribute to amplifying community voices? Montgomery Community Media is looking for you. As a NexGen Youth Media Corp, you will gain real-life experience working with a non-profits, small businesses, and the local Montgomery county community helping to foster and facilitate community engagement across digital platforms. Responsibilities:
- Create engaging content for social media platforms, including graphics, short videos, and reels.
- Assist in video tapping, editing, and producing short-form videos that highlight community stories and initiatives.
- Conduct on-camera and off-camera interviews with community members, business owners, and local leaders.
- Help develop scripts and storyboards for digital storytelling projects.
- Support video production for live events, community programs, and nonprofit initiatives.
- Capture and edit behind-the-scenes footage to showcase the work of Montgomery Community Media and its partners.
- Research and pitch story ideas that align with community issues, youth perspectives, and local news for our YouthTalk podcast.
- Assist with logging and organizing video footage for post-production.
- Learn and apply basic lighting, audio, and cinematography techniques for high-quality video storytelling.
Preferred Qualifications:
- High school or college students receiving Montgomery County Public Schools (MCPS) Student Service Learning (SSL) hours, class credit, or volunteer hours.
- Passion for community engagement, media, and digital storytelling.
- Strong communication skills and ability to collaborate with diverse groups.
- Basic understanding of social media platforms (Instagram, TikTok, Facebook, LinkedIn, YouTube).
- Interest in video production, content creation, or journalism is a plus.
- Ability to work independently and meet deadlines.
- Willingness to learn new digital tools and storytelling techniques.
- Strong organizational and problem-solving skills.
- Commitment to promoting diverse voices and perspectives in media.
- Reliable access to technology and the internet for virtual and in-person tasks.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Excellent knowledge of MS Office.
- Proficient in Canva, basic video editing, and other design tools.
- An interest in non-profit work is a plus.
