Montgomery Parks observes Active Aging Week from Monday, Oct. 2 through Sunday, Oct. 8 with numerous activities.

The week is part of an international initiative to promote healthy lifestyles, specifically for those 50 years and older. Many programs and opportunities to participate are available throughout the week.

“Active Aging Week is a great opportunity for the 50 and better community to come out and enjoy our parks,” said Jennene Blakely, Montgomery Parks Program Access manager. “We have activities geared toward older adults year-round and hope that people keep an eye out for future programming.”

The “Go, Grow & Get Active” opening event, held at Brookside Gardens in Wheaton, offers two sessions on Monday, Oct. 2, from 9 a.m.-noon and again from 2-5 p.m.  Attendees will participate in activities that boost their physical and mental wellness through creative expression, exercise and socialization. Activities include laughter yoga, karaoke, brain games, strength training, improv demonstrations, meditation, seasonal crafts, yoga dance and more. Participants will be able to stroll around the gardens with the doctors from “Walk with a Doc.” Registration is required.
