African American Health Program to Hold 11th Annual Community Day

Montgomery County’s African American Health Program (AAHP) will offer health screenings, employment resources, a blood drive, health workshops and activities for all ages at their 11th annual Community Day on Sat. May 31. The event centers around the theme of inspiring community members to prioritize their own health.

Through these activities, AAHP plans to “address chronic illnesses that disproportionately affect African American communities.”

In addition to the Community Day programming, AAHP has organized a pre-event walk with GirlTREK, a national health group for black women that focuses on transforming lives through movement and community bonding. The walk will begin at 8 a.m.

“The African American Health Program Community Day allows us to address health disparities by bringing services directly to the people who need them,” said County Executive Marc Elrich. “Their work reflects our shared commitment to health equity and to making sure every resident has the opportunity to live a healthier life.”

While the event mostly focuses on providing health education, it will also feature other community activities including dancing, a DJ and cooking demonstrations.

Community Day will take place from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Bioscience Education Center of the Montgomery College Germantown Campus. The event is free and open to all ages, but requires advanced registration on the Community Day website or on Eventbrite.
