The amazing seasons for the Bethesda-Chevy Chase Girls’ and the Walt Whitman Boys’ soccer teams came to an end as both were runners-up in their respective Class 4A State Finals. The matches were held last weekend at University Maryland-Baltimore County.
B-CC lost to Perry Hall 3-2 in overtime in heartbreaking fashion. B-CC held a 2-1 lead late, but Perry Hall equalized with just three minutes left in regulation to force overtime. Perry Hall would score the game winner just three minutes in to the extra session and raise the trophy. B-CC was looking for its first State girls title since 2012 but falls just short and finishes the season with a 12-3-2 record.
Walt Whitman was also looking for another Boys’ State title for their storied program, but Leonardtown denied the Vikings with a 1-0 win. Leonardtown finished the season undefeated while Whitman closed with a 16-4 record.
