According to a bulletin from the MDTA from July 2 through July 7, travelers along the US 50 corridor and Chesapeake Bay Bridge should prepare to encounter heavy traffic.
It cautions those traveling outside the suggested times to expect “significant delays when crossing the bridge. The core issue is traffic volume exceeding lane capacity, not two-way operations timing nor management.”
MDTA reminds drivers overhead lane signals are applicable to lanes of travel not only in the immediate area of the signal, but also “BEFORE, ON and AFTER the bridge wherever lane signals are present.”
Drivers can call 1-877-BAYSPAN (229-7726) for 24/7 bridge condition updates. MDTA also advises the public that any “aggressive or dangerous driving on Maryland toll roads” can be directly reported to MDTA Police Dispatch by calling 410-537-7911.
