Bite Into An Apple for School Breakfast Program Awareness

Maryland Hunger Solutions celebrated the “Hear the Maryland Crunch” campaign on March 10 to spread awareness about school breakfast programs.

Hear the Maryland Crunch is a virtual campaign highlighting the importance of the school breakfast program in order to provide healthy meals to students at the start of the school day. The event takes place during National School Breakfast Week each year.

According to the program, students are less likely to be overweight when they have access to a school breakfast program. They also perform better in the classroom and are less likely to be absent or late to school.

To “hear the crunch,” Marylanders were encouraged to bite into an apple at exactly 9:15 a.m. on March 10.

Marylanders can still participate via social media by taking a photo or video of themselves biting into an apple. Participants have been asked to use the hashtag, #HearTheCrunch and tag Maryland Hunger Solutions in the post.
