Black History Month Historical Highlights: Geneva Mason

Geneva Mason was a trailblazing community leader born in 1899, in Washington, D.C. After graduating from the O Street Vocational School, she moved to the Scotland community in Potomac.

Mason dedicated herself to enhancing healthcare, housing, education, and water/sewer services in Scotland. In the 1950s, Mason played a pivotal role in school integration and contributed to committees like Charter Commission and Suburban Hospital.

MCM partnered with Montgomery History to spotlight historical figures and stories in the community for Black History Month. Through this collaboration, we aim to promote understanding and appreciation of the rich history of African Americans in Montgomery County.
