Blog: Ballet Mobile Brings Fine Arts to Seneca Seniors

Seneca residents took in a bit of holiday magic when Ballet Mobile visited residents at The Seneca bringing a festive ballet performance to The Seneca just in time for the holidays.

Ballet Mobile is a ballet to-go professional delivery troupe with more that 14 years of experience. Ballet Mobile’s mission is to bring music, inspiration, hope, strength, and love to seniors with live performances.

A professional ballerina took the stage in one of our community rooms to deliver an interactive storytelling of the Nutcracker complete with numerous scenes and costume changes. A host narrated a story that was truly engaging, as residents were often encouraged to close their eyes and immerse themselves into the ballerina’s world. Each resident was even given a flower to wave around during certain parts of the performance as prompted by the host.

For extra fun, the show was paired with a nutcracker on stilts and a dreidel on stilts!

Not only was this performance beautiful and fun for residents, it also had health benefits! That’s right, according to an article by NIH’s National Institute on Aging, participating in fine arts can encourage healthy aging for seniors. Research shows that partaking in such activities, like Ballet Mobile’s interactive performance, is linked to:

  • Improved cognitive function and memory
  • Improved self-esteem and well-being
  • Reduction in stress and agitation
  • Promotion of social interaction
  • Improved coping with cognitive decline

Senior years are meant to be enjoyed, and here at The Seneca, we can think of no better way to do so than by having stimulating, engaging, and beautiful activities delivered right to you. Thank you to Ballet Mobile for creating memorable holiday experience for our residents!
