This collection of drawings by Jeffrey Berg examines personal and inward shifts – how people respond to social and political upheaval, emotional challenges, and outside influences; how people confront unexpected discord while living with past and present trauma; and crossing personal and physical borders. These are personal narratives told in the context of unfolding events: how we respond defines us.

22nd Annual Bethesda Painting Awards Exhibition

Gallery B, 7700 Wisconsin Ave E, Bethesda, MD 20814, USAEight painters have been selected as finalists for the Bethesda Painting Awards, a juried competition and exhibition produced by the Bethesda Arts & Entertainment District.
Almost 500 artists from Maryland, Virginia and Washington, D.C. submitted work to the annual competition created to exclusively honor regional painters. The top prize winners will be announced on Wednesday, June, 3rd in a private reception. The Best in Show winner will be awarded $10,000; second place will be honored with $2,000 and third place will be awarded $1,000.
The exhibit will be on display June 4 – June 28, 2026 at Gallery B, located at 7700 Wisconsin Avenue, Suite E, Bethesda, MD 20814.
Gallery hours for the duration of the exhibit will be Thursday – Saturday, 12pm – 5pm; Sunday, 11am – 4pm.
There will be a public opening reception on Friday, June 12 at 6pm. This event is free and open to the public.

Gallery B Presents "Color + Light, Part Two"

Gallery B, 7700 Wisconsin Ave E, Bethesda, MD 20814, USAPainters Kathleen Byrnes and Jennifer Howard exhibit their works at Gallery B in November 2025 Kathleen Byrnes has taken to working plein aire, challenging her to work quickly and spontaneously. Byrnes uses the environment to infuse the canvas with mood and emotion. Working in predominantly oil, Byrnes has produced works that explore the light and structure of urban Washington DC, the Virginia and Maryland country side, as well as the inlets, bay, ocean and marshlands of Southern New Jersey. Jennifer Howard is a painter and graphic designer who has lived and worked in Washington, DC for over 37 years. Her paintings are about the moment, the immediacy of paint applied honestly, thickly and emotionally on canvas. She strives to convey a textural quality to the surface with layers of color and an emphasis on capturing light.
The exhibition runs from November 6 – November 30. Gallery hours are Thursdays-Saturdays, 12-5pm, and Sundays 11am-2pm. The gallery will be closed November 27-28 for the Thanksgiving holiday.

Gay Men’s Chorus of Washington, DC: I Am America

Olney Theatre Center, 2001 Olney Sandy Spring Rd, Olney, MD 20832, USALed by Artistic Director Thea Kano, the Gay Men’s Chorus of Washington, DC (GMCW) is now in its 45th season. GMCW sings to inspire equality and inclusion with musical performances and education promoting justice and dignity for all. GMCW has more than 250 singing members, three select ensembles, a dance company, a youth chorus, and an annual audience of more than 10,000 people.
The Chorus and its ensembles keep a very busy schedule with more than 100 outreach performances each season. Past outreach performances have included the HRC National Dinner, performing live on NBC-TV’s The Today Show, an historic LGBTQ music and outreach tour in Ukraine, a first-ever tour by an LGBTQ+ chorus to Cuba, and a special concert in Reykjavik, Iceland. GMCW has performed for President and First Lady Obama, eight consecutive years at President and Dr. Biden’s residence, twice at the Kennedy Center Honors, and as part of the inaugural celebration for President Clinton. Since 2001, the Chorus has maintained a robust youth outreach program, GenOUT, and in 2015, launched the GenOUT Youth Chorus, the first LGBTQ+ and allied youth chorus in the DC metro area. Since its debut, more than 160 singers from 80 area schools have participated in GenOUT. GMCW is a member of Chorus America, the Gay and Lesbian Association of Choruses (GALA Choruses), and the Cultural Alliance of Washington.

Alfred Yun at the Silver Spring Jazz Festival

Veterans Plaza, 1 Veterans Pl, Silver Spring, MD 20910, USAAlfred Yun is a Korean-American jazz pianist and composer. His music is influenced by his upbringing in both Korea and the United States. You can hear influences ranging from jazz, hip hop, and K-Pop to traditional Korean music in Alfred Yun’s compositions.
Alfred was honored to be chosen by the Music Center At Strathmore as an Artist-in-Residence for the 2023-2024 season. This includes featured concerts at Strathmore’s prestigious AMP club in January and participating in programs throughout the season. In 2026, Alfred Yun was selected to be part of the Jazz and Sonic Arts: Improvised Music Residency at the Banff Centre for Art and Creativity.
In 2025, Alfred Yun released his album, Voice and Phenomenon, which investigates the different ways we use the voice — gibberish, games, poems, singing, spoken word, laughter, and more. The album invites the listener into an intimate account of these disparate voices and sounds. It is the most personal and revealing work of his career. Voice and Phenomenon was listed on Capital Bop's Top DC Jazz Albums of 2025.

The film explores lyrically a master craftsman’s lifelong dedication to restoring violins, including the world famous collection of Holocaust violins known as the Violins of Hope. The collection would become his passion, his obsession, and ultimately his legacy.
ABOUT WORK IN PROGRESS SCREENINGS
Launched in May 2004, the Work In Progress screening program is Docs In Progress' flagship initiative, inviting audiences directly into the creative process. By providing critical rough-cut feedback to more than 150 filmmakers, this program has fueled community connection and helped independent films cross the finish line. From these screenings, our alumni have catapulted onto the global stage, earning national broadcasts, headlining major festivals, and capturing prestigious accolades like the Peabody, Emmy, and spots on the Oscar Shortlist.

Triumph Trek at the Rio — A Celebration of Strength, Recovery and Hope

Everyone is invited to this untimed walk-or-wheel around the accessible lakeside path at Rio Lakefront in Gaithersburg — scooters and wheelchairs welcome. Enjoy music, free carousel rides, games, treats and prizes at this family-friendly morning of community and celebration.
Patients who have recovered with Adventist HealthCare Rehabilitation or Home Care Services are especially encouraged to come reconnect with their clinicians and care teams.
Proceeds benefit the Triumph Trek Fund, providing direct financial assistance to patients in need and enhancements to rehabilitative care.

22nd Annual Bethesda Painting Awards Exhibition

Gallery B, 7700 Wisconsin Ave E, Bethesda, MD 20814, USAEight painters have been selected as finalists for the Bethesda Painting Awards, a juried competition and exhibition produced by the Bethesda Arts & Entertainment District.
Almost 500 artists from Maryland, Virginia and Washington, D.C. submitted work to the annual competition created to exclusively honor regional painters. The top prize winners will be announced on Wednesday, June, 3rd in a private reception. The Best in Show winner will be awarded $10,000; second place will be honored with $2,000 and third place will be awarded $1,000.
The exhibit will be on display June 4 – June 28, 2026 at Gallery B, located at 7700 Wisconsin Avenue, Suite E, Bethesda, MD 20814.
Gallery hours for the duration of the exhibit will be Thursday – Saturday, 12pm – 5pm; Sunday, 11am – 4pm.
There will be a public opening reception on Friday, June 12 at 6pm. This event is free and open to the public.

Gallery B Presents "Color + Light, Part Two"

Gallery B, 7700 Wisconsin Ave E, Bethesda, MD 20814, USAPainters Kathleen Byrnes and Jennifer Howard exhibit their works at Gallery B in November 2025 Kathleen Byrnes has taken to working plein aire, challenging her to work quickly and spontaneously. Byrnes uses the environment to infuse the canvas with mood and emotion. Working in predominantly oil, Byrnes has produced works that explore the light and structure of urban Washington DC, the Virginia and Maryland country side, as well as the inlets, bay, ocean and marshlands of Southern New Jersey. Jennifer Howard is a painter and graphic designer who has lived and worked in Washington, DC for over 37 years. Her paintings are about the moment, the immediacy of paint applied honestly, thickly and emotionally on canvas. She strives to convey a textural quality to the surface with layers of color and an emphasis on capturing light.
The exhibition runs from November 6 – November 30. Gallery hours are Thursdays-Saturdays, 12-5pm, and Sundays 11am-2pm. The gallery will be closed November 27-28 for the Thanksgiving holiday.

Jog and Jam for Mental Health

Pickett II Foundation will host Jog N Jam for Mental Health on Sunday, September 27, 2026, at the Chesapeake & Ohio Canal National Historical Park – Carderock Recreation Area Pavilion in Potomac, Maryland (GPS: 38.9725215, -77.2001899).
The free community wellness event will promote mental health awareness, healthy lifestyles, and access to mental wellness information and resources.
Registration and check-in begin at 8:00 a.m., followed by a guided yoga stretch and a 9:00 a.m. run start. Participants may walk or jog 10K, 5K, or 2.5K routes, making the event welcoming to a wide range of ages and fitness levels. Under the theme “Bigger. Better. Free!”, this year’s Jog N Jam will combine movement, music, and community engagement through live music, freestyle dancing, instructor-led line dancing, and family-friendly activities. More than a fitness event, Jog N Jam is designed to encourage open conversations about mental health while highlighting the connection between physical activity, social connection, and emotional well-being. The event also advances the Foundation’s ongoing “Growing Minds” initiative, which empowers individuals and communities through education, awareness, and engagement. -
