Now, the DMV’s reigning musical superstar, Nova Y. Payton (World Goes 'Round), takes on the title role of a musical that churns out laughs, songs, and over-the-top antics as fast as humanly possible…and then goes a little faster. Tiny Tots in Tiaras and Tuxedos—Author Francene Hill Speaks at The Writer’s Center
December 8, 2025 7:00 pm - 8:30 pm
The Writer's Center, 4508 Walsh St, Bethesda, MD 20815, USAJoin local author, Francene Mary Diane Hill, as she shares insights into her new biography, Tiny Tots in Tiaras and Tuxedos: The Life, Love, and Business Success of Kermit B. Hill, at The Writer’s Center in Bethesda on Monday, December 8, 2025, at 7:00 – 8:30 pm. This creative biography tells the story of the author's mother, Kermit B. Hill, an African American woman entrepreneur with an unforgettable name. Kermit broke racial and gender barriers, rising from segregated Arkansas to guarding wartime secrets at the Pentagon during World War II. She went on to found and lead the groundbreaking Tiny Tot Nursery School of St. Louis for six decades.
Drawing from her parents’ 80 personal love letters, hundreds of photographs, and original War Department files, Francene traces Kermit’s journey. The book reveals her path from a juvenile probation officer in segregated Arkansas, to dancing the Lindy Hop in juke joints, and ultimately becoming the founder of Tiny Tot Nursery School.
Attendees will listen to Francene read examples from Tiny Tots in Tiaras and Tuxedos and learn how she transformed genealogy records, weather reports, and newspaper clippings into this creative biography. She will also discuss her dilemma regarding the inclusion of real names in true intimate situations from her mother’s past.
Bring your copy or grab one at any of these book launch events—and don’t miss the chance to meet the author and get your book signed!

Now, the DMV’s reigning musical superstar, Nova Y. Payton (World Goes 'Round), takes on the title role of a musical that churns out laughs, songs, and over-the-top antics as fast as humanly possible…and then goes a little faster. Olney Theatre Center, 2001 Olney Sandy Spring Rd, Olney, MD 20832, USADolly Gallagher Levi is a woman on the make. And what’s she making? Whatever you need. A husband? A wife? Dance lessons? Pierced ears? There’s never been a more indefatigable figure in American musical theatre, and perhaps that’s why the role has served as a vehicle for some of our greatest stars, from Carol Channing to Barbra Streisand to Bette Middler. Now, the DMV’s reigning musical superstar, Nova Y. Payton (World Goes 'Round), takes on the title role of a musical that churns out laughs, songs, and over-the-top antics as fast as humanly possible…and then goes a little faster. Audiences of all ages are guaranteed a great time at this classic musical about love, second chances, and the magic of an adventure to the big city! -

December in the Galleries with the Gaithersburg Fine Arts Association
December 3, 2025 - December 19, 2025
Artists & Makers Studios, 11810 Parklawn Dr Suite 210, Rockville, MD 20852, USAArtists & Makers Studios is thrilled to host the Gaithersburg Fine Arts Association for the month of December. The exhibit will run from December 3rd through December 19th, with a First Friday opening on December 5th from 5-8pm. The Gaithersburg Fine Arts Association was founded in 1976 as a small group of artists residing in Gaithersburg. Over the years, the group has grown to include members throughout Montgomery County, Frederick and DC. GFAA provides educational programs plus promotional opportunities through exhibits. Members work in the classical mediums of two-dimensional art: oil, watercolor, acrylic, pastel, tempera, drawing, and the graphic arts. This past summer, many members took the opportunity to travel. While away, they might have painted or sketched on location or captured memories using their cameras. These times are not forgotten, and GFAA members are excited to exhibit their work in a show titled “Small Images Bring Joy”. A Mini-Solo exhibit for Cathy Hirsh and Nancy Jakubowski, titled “Over the Rainbow” will open in the Lounge Gallery. Enjoy a Pop-Up with Naan Pocen, the sculptural work of Francis Maduka Uduh in studio 11, along with nineteen Gallery 209 Member Artists exhibiting their latest work. Open Studios building-wide will welcome visitors to visit and learn. Shop and support local working artists and makers. Delight in a visit from Butterfly Spirits - the current Butterfly Spirits portfolio includes elderberry vodka, botanical liqueur, hazelnut whiskey and three vodka soda canned offerings. Light fare generously sponsored by The Chesapeake Framing Company.

December 21, 2025 11:00 am - 2:00 pm
Gallery B, 7700 Wisconsin Ave E, Bethesda, MD 20814, USAPainters Kathleen Byrnes and Jennifer Howard exhibit their works at Gallery B in November 2025 Kathleen Byrnes has taken to working plein aire, challenging her to work quickly and spontaneously. Jennifer Howard is a painter and graphic designer who has lived and worked in Washington, DC for over 37 years. December 28, 2025 11:00 am - 2:00 pm
Byrnes uses the environment to infuse the canvas with mood and emotion. Jennifer Howard is a painter and graphic designer who has lived and worked in Washington, DC for over 37 years. She strives to convey a textural quality to the surface with layers of color and an emphasis on capturing light.
The exhibition runs from November 6 – November 30. Gallery hours are Thursdays-Saturdays, 12-5pm, and Sundays 11am-2pm. The gallery will be closed November 27-28 for the Thanksgiving holiday.
