National Night Out is an annual community-building campaign that promotes police-community partnerships and neighborhood camaraderie to make our neighborhoods safer, and more caring places to live. Come out to meet the officers of the 2nd District (Bethesda) Police Station, the B-CC Rescue Squad, Bethesda Chevy-Chase Services and the Bethesda Fire Department. Kids and adults alike can tour fire trucks and ambulances, enjoy live music and play free carnival games! A biography digging deeper in to the story of Josiah Henson, restoring to history his role in the Underground Railroad

From the plantation fields of Maryland, to the Georgetown Market, to the plantations of Kentucky; escaping to freedom in Canada, and being introduced to the Queen in England, Josiah Henson led a fascinating life. Born enslaved, Henson eventually escaped and became a respected minister and famed secular leader.

“My Name Is Not Tom” is a biography of Josiah Henson, the man catapulted into fame after Harriet Beecher Stowe noted that events in his life partially influenced the development of her fictional character, Uncle Tom. While previous biographies have relied heavily on Henson's four autobiographies (dictated under duress), which replicated the myth that he was the sole inspiration for Stowe’s character, "My Name is Not Tom" uses novel primary source research to fill in the untold parts of his extraordinary life. The author examines Henson's views of slavery and morality, which changed substantially over the course of his life.

(Rockville, MD) – Artists & Makers Studios is pleased to host WCADC for the month of August. The exhibit will run from August 6th through August 26th, with a First Friday opening on August 7th from 5-8pm. “Salon: 2026 WCADC Member Invitational” Named for the art-hanging style coined by Parisian artists, WCADC invites members to participate in a non-juried 2026 Member Invitational “Salon”. This show is the 2nd annual salon-style, hodgepodge exhibition, and serves as a Thank You to WCA members based in DC, MD, and VA. Pamela Joy Trow shares a mini-solo exhibit in the Lounge Gallery and Resident Artists exhibit in the Gallery Hall. Enjoy the sculptural work of Francis Maduka Uduh in studio 11, along with nineteen Gallery 209 Member Artists exhibiting their latest work. Collect a handmade piece of art and support local working artists, makers, and professionals. Light fare generously sponsored each month by The Chesapeake Framing Company.

Bethesda Outdoor Movies return on July 25, July 31 and August 7, 2026.

Join us in the park after dark to look for moths. We’ll set up a mothing station designed to attract these beautiful yet secretive nocturnal animals. Our insect enthusiasts will be on hand to help us identify what we find as we collect data for an ongoing study. Bring a lawn chair and extra layers, as well as a headlamp or flashlight. The mothing station will be set up a short walk from the parking lot. You must be comfortable walking in the woods at night on natural surface trails. Bring your own snacks and drinks to keep your stamina! Participants may leave at any time and do not have to stay for the duration of the program. In the event of rain, we cancel.

Ride the Dentzel carousel during sensory-friendly time with:

• No lights
• Recorded music at a lower volume
• Slower AND shorter rides
• More time between rides, allowing extra time to get on and off the carousel and to get settled and accustomed to the carousel

Doors open 15 minutes before regular opening time, allowing time to walk around the carousel, touch the animals, and get familiar with the setting while music is not playing and the ride isn't moving.

One of Broadway's biggest stars joins us for a special one-night-only concert, performing songs from some of her biggest hits, as well as personal favorites, and perhaps a few surprises!

Sutton Foster is a two-time Tony Award-winning performer, whose career spans Broadway, film, and television. Her rise to stardom is one of the most unique stories in Broadway history. Ms. Foster, who was working as an understudy on the world-premiere production of Thoroughly Modern Millie, was thrust into the leading role at the last minute. Rave reviews of the musical and Ms. Foster’s performance brought the show to Broadway, and she won her first Tony Award. Her performances in beloved works like Anything Goes, The Music Man, Once Upon A Mattress, Sweeney Todd, and Into the Woods, among many others, have also received wide-spread acclaim. On television, she has starred in Younger, Bunheads, Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life, and The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel. Ms. Foster is one of today’s must-see performers.

Glenn Leonard’s Temptations Revue is the world’s most authentic and talented tribute to the original Temptations today! It’s a dynamic show with 5 vocalists that have all the choreography, personality, talent and style of the originals, including the legendary former lead tenor! Glenn Leonard served as their lead tenor from 1975-83, and recorded 10 albums with the group, including his signature Temptations version of “Silent Night,” which is one of the most played songs on the radio, worldwide, at Christmas time. Glenn also performed and recorded with all of the original members during the famed Temptations Reunion Tour in 1982.   Rounding out this dynamic lineup are Shelton Price, Melvin Franklin, Jr., former Atlantic Records recording artist Kareem Ali, and one of the most powerful voices in the business, Andre Jackson! All are longtime members of Glenn Leonard’s Temptations Revue! Glenn Leonard’s Temptations Revue, with their full band, perform all the hit songs that fans know and love!
