Californian Wins $1 Billion Jackpot: 2 Marylanders Become Millionaires

A lucky player from California matched all five numbers plus the Powerball number Wednesday night to win $1.08 billion, the third-largest jackpot in the game’s history. Two players from Maryland also hit it big, winning $1 million each.

The winning numbers for Wednesday’s draw were 7-10-11-13-24 and the Powerball number was 24. The winning ticket was sold at the Las Palmitas Mini Market in Los Angeles, according to the California Lottery. The winner may choose a one-time payment of $558.1 million or 30 yearly payments totaling $1.08 billion.

Powerball has nine prize tiers ranging from $4 up to the jackpot. There were two tickets sold in Maryland that matched all five numbers and are worth $1 million. One of the tickets sold in Caroline County on the Eastern Shore and the other ticket sold in neighboring Howard County.

The jackpot now goes back to $20 million, with draws happening every Monday, Wednesday and Saturday.

The next drawing takes place Saturday at 10:59 p.m. ET. The odds of winning the jackpot are 1 in 292.2 million.
