CDC: Summer COVID-19 Cases ‘Likely Growing’ in Maryland

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recently announced that COVID-19 infection rates are increasing nationwide, with Maryland included on the list of more than two dozen states where cases are, “likely growing.” There is a 77 percent probability of an increase in Maryland, according to the CDC’s Current Epidemic Trends (Based on Rt) for States data presented o July 15. 

Montgomery County reported a low community level status for the virus, with an average of 10.09 weekly cases per 100,000 residents, as of July 15. In this same period, the County also reported 2.06 hospital admissions for COVID-19 per 100,000 residents.

The CDC website that most adults receive the 2024-2025 COVID-19 vaccine, despite a recent rollback of vaccine requirements by U.S. Health  Secretary Robert F. Kennedy, Jr.. It’s a choice Sec. Kennedy stated, “should be a shared clinical decision-making process between you and your doctor.”

The CDC also recommends parents of children between the ages six months to 17 years to speak with their healthcare providers about the benefits of vaccination.
