Clarksburg High School Hosts Annual School Supplies Drive

On Friday, MCPS hosted this year’s “The Drive for Supplies” event at Clarksburg High School.

At the end of every school year students are asked to collect gently used items from their desks and lockers to donate to families. This year almost 5,000 pounds of school supplies were given out to the community for free.

“Our students have a big heart for each other and their peers” said MCPS staff member, Shella Cherry. “So it’s nice to know our students are donating for their peers and for our student volunteers to be apart of this process to create this store like environment.”

Students also helped pack, sort, and distribute the items to families. Student Kaisy Mejia says she hopes this effort expands to other parts of Maryland.

“It was really fun, said Mejia. “really like giving back to people who need it. And everybody came up to me and said you’re doing a really good job, and that made me feel really passionate about myself.”
