Commanders Draft Josh Conerly Jr. With the No. 29 Pick

The Washington Commanders selected University of Oregon offensive tackle Josh Conerly Jr. with the No. 29 overall pick in the 2025 NFL Draft on Thursday night.

Conerly, 21, was a two-year starter at Oregon who climbed draft boards following a strong 2024 season that ended with All-America honors. The 6-foot-5, 315-pound tackle will compete for a starting job on Washington’s offensive line this summer.

“We were holding our breath for a while thinking he might go ahead of us,” General Manager Adam Peters said at a news conference. “So we were thrilled when he was there. It was an easy pick for us to make, and we’re really pumped to have another Commander in the building.”

The selection of Conerly comes after the team traded for star left tackle Laremy Tunsil earlier in the offseason. With the additions of Conerly and Tunsil, Washington’s offensive line should look significantly different next season as the team looks to shore up protection for second-year quarterback Jayden Daniels.

Rounds two and three of the NFL draft begin Friday at 7 p.m. Barring a trade, the Commanders are scheduled to make one selection Friday night at No. 61 overall.
