Montgomery County is preparing for the “Community Safety Day” event, hosted by the Montgomery County Department of Transportation (MCDOT). The event is scheduled for Saturday, May 11, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Carver Educational Services Center (CESC) in Rockville.

The fair aims to highlight driver, bike, and pedestrian safety. It offers interactive experiences like safety demonstrations, workshops, games, and hands-on activities for all ages.

The event location is the parking lot of the Carver Educational Services Center, situated at 850 Hungerford Drive in Rockville.

Montgomery County Executive Marc Elrich stressed the importance of peer-to-peer messaging in promoting safety awareness among young people, referencing initiatives like the Vision Zero Youth Ambassador program.

Safety Day is a collaborative effort by members of the Vision Zero Youth Ambassador program, focusing on group projects addressing local traffic safety needs.

MCDOT Director Chris Conklin reiterated the county’s commitment to safety, emphasizing the importance of safely navigating roads and sidewalks.

The event, co-sponsored by Montgomery County Public Schools (MCPS) and Montgomery County Recreation, offers various activities for all ages. These activities include a Traffic Garden, hourly raffle drawings, and interactive demonstrations.

MCPS Interim Superintendent of Schools Monique Felder emphasized the event’s significance in spreading awareness about safety. She stressed the importance of ensuring families have the resources needed for safe travel.
