Comptroller Peter Franchot says more needs to be done to help Marylanders struggling throughout the COVID-19 pandemic. Franchot estimates that to be about a third of Maryland residents.
In a recent response to the Senate’s amendments regarding Governor Hogan’s RELIEF Act of 2021, Franchot commended Senate President Ferguson and senators for proposing additional much-needed aid. However, he says there are even more funds to go around.
“I’ve been strongly advocating for the State to provide direct and immediate $2,000 stimulus payments to low-income Maryland households that are suffering the most from the public health and economic consequences of this pandemic. That’s why I was disappointed that I did not see, in the Senate’s proposed $520 million addition to the Governor’s $1.1 billion package, an amendment to increase, not even by a penny, to the Governor’s proposed individual stimulus payments,” said Franchot in a recent statement.
