Construction Started on Senior Community By Grosvenor-Strathmore Metro

Ground was broken Wednesday for a senior living community by the Grosvenor-Strathmore Metro.

The Reserve Strathmore Square will be a 20-story building that will have 220 residences and retail on the ground floor.

Metro, in partnership with Fivesquares Development and Experience Senior Living—a wholly owned subsidiary of NexCore Group— joined to create the community. The project will be developed by NexCore Group and Experience Senior Living will operate the community.

“This new senior living community will give older adults better access to the mobility, services, and independence they deserve—right next to reliable transit. We’re grateful for the Montgomery County Council’s unwavering support and leadership, which has been essential in bringing this project to life,” said Randy Clarke, General Manager and CEO of Metro.

Montgomery County Councilmember Kate Stewart said the project “reflects our commitment to building communities where residents of every age can thrive.”

She added, “By pairing new senior housing with easy access to transit and the arts, we are creating opportunity, connection, and stability for older adults in our county. The Council’s support for transit-oriented development is unwavering, and today’s groundbreaking shows what’s possible when we plan with people, not just buildings, in mind.”

The Reserve Strathmore Square represents the second phase of Strathmore Square; a six-phase master planned, transit-oriented community envisioned and developed by Fivesquares Development. The first phase, a two-building development consisting of 220 apartment units was completed in Fall 2024.

The entire community, which is called Strathmore Square, is expected to include 2,120 residential units and 131,000 square feet of retail space in the area.
