Council Meeting Reveals Gaps in Youth Drug Crisis Solutions

The County Council Committee on Health and Human Services (HHS) met to address the current fentanyl fueled youth drug crisis on Monday. Committee Chair Will Jawando brought many members of the health community together to develop a plan for the future.

The pandemic has aggravated many mental health issues for school age children. And despite the county’s best efforts, gaps remain, especially in the areas of treatment and recovery. Councilmember Natalie Fani-Gonzalez spoke to her experience with frustrated parents in her district.

The HHS Committee helps to coordinate the many services available to simplify finding assistance and to find ways to fill the needs currently unmet.
