County Animal Services Waives Large Dog Adoption Fees May 10-11

Montgomery County Animal Services and Adoption Center (MCASAC) will waive adoption fees for large dogs during its “Spring Fling” event Friday and Saturday, May 10–11, to ease overcrowding and place more pets in permanent homes.

The shelter, located at 7315 Muncaster Mill Road, is full of large dogs and struggling to keep up with incoming animals. Friends of Montgomery County Animals will cover the fees for all dogs weighing more than 30 pounds.

“Dogs continue to enter the shelter every day and staff are struggling to find available kennels.” said Maria Anselmo, the center’s community relations manager. “These dogs need your help. If you aren’t able to adopt, consider fostering, donating or even just spreading the word.”

Staff will process adoptions on a first-come, first-served basis. Adopters should bring a leash and collar and be ready to take their new pet home the same day. More details about the adoption process is available online.

MCASAC also encourages residents to foster large dogs. Fostering is free, and the center provides all supplies. Those interested can sign up online.

In addition, the shelter urges the public to help prevent animals from entering the facility. Reuniting lost pets with their owners and donating pet food to local pantries can help families in need. The shelter accepts pet food donations on-site.

The Montgomery County Office of Animal Services operates the center, the county’s only open-admission municipal shelter. Staff care for homeless, abused and neglected animals and promote responsible pet ownership through adoption, education and outreach.
