County Announces Schedule for Thanksgiving Holiday Weekend

Montgomery County has announced multiple closures and operating hours changes for facilities, services, buildings and offices on Thanksgiving weekend.

  • County offices—Closed Thanksgiving Day.
  • MC 311—Closed Thanksgiving Day.
  • State offices and courts——Closed Thanksgiving Day and Nov. 24.
  • State Motor Vehicle Administration offices and Vehicle Emissions Inspection Program stations—Closed Thanksgiving Day.
  • Libraries——Closed Thanksgiving Day.
  • Alcohol Beverage Services (ABS)—All ABS stores will be closed on Thanksgiving Day. Stores will operate from 10 a.m.-9 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 24.
  • Department of Permitting Services—All offices, including the customer service lobby, will be closed on Thanksgiving Day. Offices will be open 7:30 a.m.-4 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 24.
  • Ride On—Will operate on a Sunday service schedule on Thanksgiving Day. All schedules can be viewed at Routes and Schedules – Ride On – Transit Services – Montgomery County, Maryland (montgomerycountymd.gov).
  • Ride On extRa and Ride On Flex—Will not be in service on Thanksgiving Day.
  • Flash—On Thanksgiving Day, will operate a Weekends and Holidays service for the Orange Route. The Blue Route will not be in service.
  • MARC Train—No MARC Train service on Thanksgiving Day. On Friday, Nov. 24, will operate on Saturday schedule on the Penn Line only. There will be no Camden or Brunswick Line service on Nov. 24.
  • TRiPS Silver Spring commuter store—Will be closed on Thanksgiving Day. It will be open 10 a.m.-4 p.m. on Nov. 24.
  • TRiPS Mobile Commuter Store—Will be closed on Thanksgiving Day. Open on Nov. 24.
  • Metrorail——On Thanksgiving Day, will operate on a Sunday Holiday schedule, with trains running from 7 a.m.-midnight. On Friday, Nov. 24, trains will run from 5 a.m.-1 a.m. For more details, go to https://www.wmata.com/schedules/timetables/index.cfm.
  • Metrobus—Will operate on a Sunday schedule on Thanksgiving Day. Will operate on regular Friday schedule on Nov. 24. More details at https://www.wmata.com/service/bus/metrobus-saturday-supplemental.cfm.
  • Parking at public garages, lots, curbside meters—Free on Thanksgiving Day. Charges in effect on Friday, Nov. 24.
  • County-provided trash and recycling collections will not be made on Thursday, Nov. 24. Collections normally scheduled for Thursday, Nov. 24, and Friday, Nov. 25, will slide to one day later.
  • Shady Grove Transfer Station and Recycling Center—Entire facility closed Thanksgiving Day.
  • Aquatic Centers—Will close at 6 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 23. Closed on Thanksgiving Day.
  • Community Recreation and Senior Centers—Closed Thanksgiving Day and Friday, Nov. 24.

Montgomery Parks Closures and Schedule Changes

The Open Parkways program will be extended during the Thanksgiving holiday weekend. During this time, parkways will be open to pedestrians and bicyclists and closed to motor vehicles. The special hours include Beach Drive between Connecticut and Knowles Avenue (2.9 miles) from 9 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 22, through 4 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 26; Sligo Creek Parkway between Old Carroll Avenue and Piney Branch Road and between Forest Glen Road and University Boulevard West from 9 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 22, through 4 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 26; Little Falls Parkway between Arlington Road and Dorset Avenue (0.4 miles) will be open 24/7 for recreation and exercise.

Open During the Holiday Weekend

  • Parks, trails, gardens, playgrounds, dog parks, skate parks, outdoor exercise stations, and outdoor tennis/pickleball and basketball courts* are open daily, sunrise to sunset. (*Select outdoor courts are available for rental.)
  • The inline hockey rink at Ridge Road Recreational Park and street hockey/futsal rink at Dewey Local Park may be permitted, or are available first-come, first-served, if not reserved.
  • Campfire rings are available for rental at several locations.
  • Ice Skating at Cabin John Ice Rink or Wheaton Ice Arena.
  • Little Bennett Campground.
  • South Germantown Driving Range.
  • Brookside Gardens grounds open daily sunrise-4 p.m., Visitor Center open daily 9 a.m.­-4 p.m., Conservatory open daily 10 a.m.-4 p.m.  Buildings and gardens close at 4 p.m. daily and reopen at 5:30 p.m. for Garden of Lights ticket holders.
  • Josiah Henson Museum & Park, Friday and Saturday, 10 a.m.-4 p.m., Sunday noon-4 p.m.

Closed on Thanksgiving Day 

  • Montgomery Parks headquarters and permits offices.
  • Montgomery Parks customer service office.
  • All Montgomery Parks facilities and buildings (parks and trails are always open daily, sunrise to sunset).
