Advances in DNA technology led to the arrest of Eugene Gligor, 45, of Washington D.C., for second-degree murder of Chevy Chase resident Leslie Preer in May of 2001.
On Wednesday, Gligor pled guilty in the county’s Circuit Court.
Preer was found dead in her home on May 2, 2001. Her death was determined to be a homicide. While DNA belonging to an unknown male was collected at the scene, the identity of the man remained unknown for 23 years.
In 2024, the Montgomery County Police Department Cold Case Section sent the DNA sample out for forensic genetic genealogical analysis which led to the identification of Gligor as the perpetrator.
Gligor was known to Preer and her family and had previously dated her daughter. He faces up to 30 years in prison. He is scheduled to be sentenced on August 28.
