Thursday afternoon’s thunderstorm brought dozens of trees down on homes and vehicles, according to Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Service (MCFRS) Chief Spokesperson Pete Piringer.

There were more than 200 calls for service over a two-hour period between 4:30 p.m.-6:30 p.m., according to Piringer.

“Typically in a 24-hour period, we handle maybe around 400 calls,” he said in a video on social media. Most of the calls were for wires and trees down. There were no significant injuries.

There were a number of crashes, including a tree that fell on a car and Metrobus on East West Highway — there were no serious injuries from the incident.

“We had trees fall down on the beltway, on [I-270], so nowhere was spared in the downcounty area primarily,” Piringer said.

There were 600 total incidents on Thursday, including medical and fire.
