Driver Charged with DUI After Striking State Police Trooper on Highway

Police said a state police trooper was injured last week after a driver crashed into his patrol vehicle.

Police said Collin Rono, 21, of Potomac, was charged with driving under the influence.

After 11 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 21, Maryland State Police (MSP) troopers responded to northbound I-270 at Tuckerman Lane in Bethesda for reported flooding, MSP stated. Police said the trooper was sitting in his marked patrol vehicle with emergency lights on while diverting traffic from the flooding. Rono, who was driving a Hyundai, crashed into the rear of the patrol vehicle.

According to MSP, the trooper has been released from the hospital.

Police said the crash remains under investigation.
