A normally quiet Silver Spring intersection turned into a scene of a death investigation Sunday afternoon when an SUV lost control and flipped, killing the driver and injuring a passenger, according to Montgomery County police.
First responders rushed to Old Columbia Pike and Musgrove Road around 1:30 p.m., arriving to find a black Cadillac XT4 with its roof smashed against the pavement. Two people were trapped inside.
The woman behind the wheel was pronounced dead at the scene. The passenger, a man, survived with non-life-threatening injuries and was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment, police said.
Preliminary findings indicate the Cadillac was traveling south on Old Columbia Pike when the driver veered off the road at the intersection, causing the vehicle to overturn. No other vehicles were involved in the crash. Investigators are still working to determine what caused the driver to lose control of the vehicle.
