
Residents can safely dispose of unused medications at multiple locations during National Prescription Drug Take Back Day on Saturday, April 26.
The initiative aims to prevent drug misuse and protect the environment. Accepted items include prescription pills, over-the-counter tablets, inhalers, creams, ointments, pet medications, and vaping products without batteries. Items not accepted are needles, liquids, injectables, marijuana, and illegal drugs.

Rockville City Police Department
RCPD will host a Take Back Day event on Sunday, April 28 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Community members can drop off prescription drugs at the police station at 2 W. Montgomery Ave. RCPD also has a drug drop box in the station lobby available year round.
Takoma Park Police Department
The Takoma Park Police Department maintains a permanent 24/7 drop off box in the first floor lobby of their station on Maple Avenue. Drugs can be dropped off. No questions will be asked.
Gaithersburg City Police Department
The GCPD will be accepting drop-offs at their police station at 16 S. Summit Ave. The GCPD now has a prescription drop box available seven days a week between 8 a.m. and 9 p.m.
Montgomery County Department of Police (multiple locations)
The MCDP maintains several permanent drop off boxes. They are located in the lobbies of all six district stations.

Since the program’s inception in 2010, over 19 million pounds of medications have been collected nationwide.
For those unable to attend, permanent drop boxes are available year-round at various police stations as noted above.
