Elrich Kicks Off Campaign for Council

For the first time ever in Montgomery County history, a current County Executive will run for election to become a member of the County Council. Marc Elrich sent out emails to voters on Tuesday to announce the kickoff event for his campaign.

Last fall, residents voted to limit the number of terms for County Executive from three to two. So Elrich, still looking to serve, has chosen to run again for the Council, a job he has held three times in the past. He will seek one of the four At-Large seats.

Here’s part of his message: “Having served on the Council previously, I know the influence it can have on the future of our County, its neighborhoods, schools, ag reserve, environment, businesses, economic development, and its people. “

His kickoff event on Thursday, Dec. 4 will be at McGinty’s in downtown Silver Spring.

The Gubernatorial Primary Election will be held on Tuesday, June 23, 2026.
