Father of child who fatally shot himself indicted for involuntary manslaughter

The father of a six-year-old boy who fatally shot himself in Montgomery Village was indicted by a grand jury on charges of involuntary manslaughter, neglect of a minor and reckless endangerment.

According to the indictment, Lascelle Lee, 32, of Upper Marlboro, was charged in connection with a Feb. 17 incident in which a loaded gun was unsecured where the child would have access.

“The victim accessed the firearm and shot himself in the face, which instantly killed him,” according to a Montgomery County State’s Attorney spokesperson.

Lee was released on his own recognizance pending a trial. A scheduling hearing for his trial is set for April 24.

According to police at the time, officers went to the 10100 block of Maple Leaf Drive at 2:45 p.m. after receiving a report of an accidental shooting. The child was unresponsive when the police arrived.

“This child unfortunately gained access to this firearm,” said Sheira Goff, Montgomery County Police Director of Public Information, during a news briefing following the child’s death.
