Firefighters Battle Kensington House Fire Amid Sweltering Heat

A hot and humid labor-intensive battle between Montgomery County firefighters and a Kensington house fire Tuesday morning left a family without a home.

About 40 first responders arrived at the 11800 block of Goodloe Road for a call of a house fire at approximately 11 a.m., according to Montgomery County Fire and Rescue (MCFRS).

MCFRS spokesperson Pete Piringer initially said that the home’s occupants were unaccounted for but then later updated that the family of four made it out safely.

Firefighters were on the scene for multiple hours in 90-degree heat before putting out the fire. Two firefighters were transported to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, according to Piringer.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation, but Piringer said fire investigators discovered damaged lithium batteries inside the home.

The fire caused approximately $400,000 in damages, according to Piringer.
