Five Things to Know for Dec. 19 in Montgomery County

It’s Wednesday, Dec. 19, Christmas is six days away, and here are five things you need to know:

1. Jingle Bell Breakfast: The Long Branch Senior Center in Silver Spring has a free Jingle Bell Breakfast from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. There will also be two craft tables with supplies so seniors can make holiday gifts. There is a $1 charge for making a holiday gift.

2. Blood Drive: The Montgomery County Police Department is holding a Memorial Blood Drive for Officer Noah Leotta, who was killed by a drunk driver in Dec. 2015. The blood drive will be at the Montgomery County Police’s Public Safety Headquarters on 100 Edison Park Dr. in Gaithersburg. Make an appointment to give blood between 8 a.m. until 2 p.m. on the Red Cross’ website (search “20878” or “Gaithersburg”).

3. MCEA Meets BOE: Montgomery County Education Association is holding their annual meeting with the Board of Education at the Carver Educational Services Center in Rockville from 6:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. If you are a teacher and are interested in attending, more information can be found here.

4. Active Shooter Training: Takoma Park Police is conducting active shooting training scenarios at John Nevins Andrews School. If you are around this area, you may hear gunshots, so be aware that officers are using “non-lethal training ammunition.”

5. PEPCO Community Meeting: PEPCO is holding a Community Meeting to discuss the Sligo to Linden Underground Line project. In this project, PEPCO is upgrading the electric system infrastructure in downtown Silver Spring. As such, this meeting will provide information about how the project will impact the surrounding areas. The meeting is at the Yeshiva School of Greater Washington in Forest Glen from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m.
