Friday Weather Delays and Closings in Montgomery County

The second winter storm this week is expected to bring 1-3 inches of snow through Friday evening. Up to 5 inches of snow is possible in some areas of the county. Montgomery County Public Schools announced Thursday evening schools would be closed Friday due to the storm.

Montgomery College classes will all be virtual Friday. The physical campuses are all closed.

Federal Government:

Federal offices in the Washington, D.C. area will open with a 2-hour delay. Employees may take unscheduled leave or unscheduled telework. Find more details here.

State of Maryland:

Liberal leave is in place for state employees through the end of the day. Emergency essential employees should report to work as scheduled. Non-emergency essential employees who report to the office to work may use liberal leave upon notification to the employee’s supervisor. Teleworkers should work as scheduled unless leave is granted.

The University of Maryland, College Park is closed Friday. No classes will meet in-person. Find more information here.

Montgomery County:

The Montgomery County government offices and departments open on time without a delay Friday.

Ride On buses will follow a S Service Schedule which means the routes are the same as regular weekday service but less frequent. Flash routes will be serviced by regular Ride On branded buses, not the usual Flash branded articulated buses. Destination signs will identify buses serving the Flash Blue and Orange routes. All regularly scheduled recreation programs and activities are canceled. County pools will open at 8:30 a.m. Senior centers will open at 10 a.m. Auqatic, senior and recreation centers will open for drop-in activities only. The Friday night sessions of the January Invitational Swim Meet are canceled.

County trash and recycling collection services are suspended for Friday. Collections that were scheduled for Friday (i.e., collections normally scheduled for Thursday that would have been collected today due to the “slide schedule”) will be collected tomorrow.

Collections normally scheduled for today (Friday collections) will be collected Monday. Collections for the rest of next week will operate on a “slide schedule” (Monday collections will take place Tuesday; Tuesday collections will take place Wednesday; etc.)

The Shady Grove Processing Facility Transfer Station in Derwood is closed today.

Metrobus:

Metrobus is operating on a regular scheduled service Friday. If road conditions deteriorate, riders may experience delays or detours.

Metrorail is running regular service.
