Germantown man charged with attempted murder after shooting at a police officer

A Germantown man is charged with attempted murder in connection with the shooting of a Montgomery County police officer Tuesday.

Officers stepped up their patrols in the area of Contour Road in Montgomery Village in response to community complaints of criminal activity including assaults, robberies, thefts, drugs and other public nuisance crimes.

While patrolling in that area at 4:51 p.m., officers saw a person they recognized as a drug user pacing in a parking lot. Soon, they saw another man enter the lot and start talking to the first man.

The second man, who police identified as Andre Duvall, 27, walked away when he saw the police vehicle. When officers attempted to stop him, he ran and officers followed him into an apartment complex.

An officer ordered him to stop. As that officer turned the corner of a building, Duvall fired multiple shots at him, but he was not injured, according to police. The officer took cover and returned fire, striking Duvall.

Other officers called for help and began providing first aid to Duvall. Duvall was transported to an area hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. He was released later that same day and taken to the Montgomery County Central Processing Unit.

He is charged with two counts of attempted first-degree murder, two counts of first and second-degree assault, and multiple firearms violations. He is prohibited from possessing firearms due to prior convictions.

Duvall is being held without bond.

No officers were injured, and no bystanders were harmed. A handgun was recovered at the scene.

Body worn video from the incident is expected to be released by the beginning of the week of March 30.
