About a day and a half after a sewer main collapsed in Germantown, WSSC Water crews continue repairs near 19111 Liberty Mill Road.
Repair crews worked overnight fusing together and installing 1,000 feet of 18-inch-diameter bypass piping. As of 10:15 a.m., the work was about halfway complete.
Meanwhile, Washington Gas and Verizon crews completed their utility relocation work Friday morning, giving WSSC Water full access to the site.
As of Friday morning, eight pumps for the bypass operation were on-site. Approximately 110 feet of 30-inch-diameter PVC pipe also are on site.
Next, crews will excavate and remove the damaged pipe and install a replacement section between two manholes.
The 30-inch diameter main collapse first was reported at 6:30 a.m. Thursday.
Drinking water has not been affected, according to WSSC Water.
