Higher Goals: Councilmember Sayles Sets Sights on Seat in Congress

After sitting on Gaithersburg City Council and now Montgomery County Council, Laurie-Anne Sayles has set her sights on a role in the federal government. Last. week, she declared her candidacy for U.S. Congressional District 6, the seat currently held by U.S. Rep. David Trone.

Sayles came to MCM’s studios to talk about her upbringing, accomplishments and priorities. If elected, she hopes to use her background in public health to reduce inequities. She intends to continue listening to young people following her establishment of a Youth Advisory Council.

Sayles also wants to be a voice for women and those struggling to afford to live in Montgomery County.

Growing up in the county, Sayles is one of six children and a single parent to a University of Maryland graduate. She lives in Gaithersburg.
