A Gaithersburg resident won $100,000 playing the Maryland Lottery. The self-described dog lover claimed his winnings at lottery headquarters in Baltimore on Wednesday, April 26.

The 63-year-old told lottery officials he just recently started playing the Lottery and decided to purchase two scratch-off tickets using his license plate number. The tickets were purchased at the 7-Eleven located at 8946 North Westland Drive in Gaithersburg.

The Gaithersburg resident discovered he won the top prize of $50,000 with both tickets, for a total of $100,000, by using the lottery app on his phone. He called his partner and asked her to also check just to confirm.

After claiming his prize, he told lottery officials, “I still can’t believe it. We’re both still in shock.”

He said he has no plans on how he’ll spend his winnings but plans to keep playing the lottery.

The Gaithersburg 7-Eleven receives a $1,000 bonus for selling two $50,000 top-prize winning tickets.

Maryland allows lottery winners to remain anonymous.
