Raskin, who defeated Trone in a 2016 primary, endorsed Alsobrooks Monday.

Governor Wes Moore also endorsed Alsobrooks during an October campaign event.

“We need to rally behind a person who shares both the empathy and the track record to meet this moment,” Moore said in his endorsement speech.

Montgomery County politicians are also rallying around Alsobrooks, including Will Jawando who left the race in 2023. Montgomery County executive Marc Elrich and a slew of state delegates are also listed as endorsers.

Trone Wins Over Democratic House Leaders, Major Maryland Groups

Trone has amassed endorsements from members of congress across the country and some key unions in Maryland.

Minority Leader of the House of Representatives Hakeem Jeffries and Democratic Whip Katherine Clark both endorsed Trone in December.

Only one member of the Maryland congressional delegation – Rep. Dutch Ruppersberger – endorsed Trone. Ruppersberger praised Trone’s work on addiction, criminal justice reform and mental health in a video posted by the Trone campaign.

“Experience matters and David is ready to hit the ground running,” Ruppersberger said.

The Maryland teachers union (The Maryland State Education Association) endorsed Trone in November. In statements posted by the union, leaders cited Trone’s efforts to ensure that all students have access to quality public schools.

Trone is also endorsed by the unions for ironworkers, electrical workers and fire fighters.
