Inspector General Limarzi Reappointed

Tuesday the Council unanimously voted to reappoint Megan Davey Limarzi as Montgomery County’s inspector general. This marks the beginning of her second 4-year term. 

In a press release, Council President Kate Stewart shared a few words on the reappointment. “Inspector General Limarzi continues to be an outstanding inspector general who has built a team dedicated to protecting Montgomery County residents against fraud, waste, abuse, and misconduct.” The Council extends its gratitude to General Limarzi’s commitment to oversight and protection of the use of taxpayer dollars. 

The Office of the Inspector General’s purpose is to investigate and prevent problems or discrepancies within Montgomery County’s government operations, reduce waste, and detect fraud. Over Inspector General Limarzi’s first term, the Office has issued 81 reports, made over 250 recommendations for improvements, and responded to more than 1,600 complaints. 

In a press release from the Office of the Inspector General, Limarzi gives thanks to the Council for their support as well as extended thanks to “…the many employees and residents who call and email our office to shine a light on issues and expose opportunities for improvement within publicly funded programs. The trust they have in the Office of the Inspector General is critical to our important work.” She went on to say that she looks, “…forward to continuing to provide the oversight and accountability that supports trust in government. I am eager to continue working alongside the many dedicated County leaders who are making Montgomery County a truly inclusive, equitable, responsible community.”

Some of her career highlights include; being a recipient of the Maryland Daily Record’s Leading Women Award, a member of the Leadership Montgomery CORE Class of 2019, and a member of the Board of Directors for the Association of Inspectors General where she also serves on the Executive Committee and the Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Accessibility Committee.

Montgomery County’s Office of the Inspector General was created in 1997 and Limarzi is the fourth inspector general and first woman to hold the position. For more information see the Council’s press release and visit the Office of the Inspector General’s website.
